Fire Shelter
Improved protection compared to older fire shelters means:A 22% reduction in temperature rise and a 59% reduction in heat flux when exposed to radiant heatAn 81% reduction in temperature rise and a 97% reduction in heat flux when exposed to direct heat Specifications: The shelter is 4"H x 5"W x 8˝"L when folded and unfolds to a size of 15˝"H x 31"W x 86"L. Outer layer is woven silica laminated to aluminum foil. Inner layer is fiberglass laminated to aluminum foil. Outer foil layer reflects radiant heat and the woven silica slows heat passage to the interior. Inner foil layer prevents heat from being reradiated to person inside and acts as a barrier to gases that can be released by the adhesive. New rounded shape results in less absorption of radiant heat. There are no straps across the opening and “shake handles” have been added to speed deployment. Compliance: Meets Forest Service Specification 5100-606. Note: The Forest Fire Shelter should only be used as a last resort. No product will guarantee a firefighter’s survival in an entrapment situation. Training is required for proper use. |
