DC Purging Pumps

Document Number: 1244
A simple, economical, and portable pump for easy purging of wells down to 40
or 60 feet, draw down and recharge tests, and dedicated well sampling. It can
also be a disposable pump suitable for well development.
Features & Construction
Made of ABS plastic the pump uses a 3/8" ID hose or when used with the
adapter a 1/2" ID hose: nylon reinforced PVC is recommended. The pump
impeller is stainless steel and the seals are synthetic rubber. Power is
supplied by a 12 volt source such as an automobile battery. An inlet strainer
helps to keep debris out of the pump; but it will not restrict sand and silt
from entering, which can damage the pump. Power attachments are via battery
clips. Cable length on the standard is 55 feet and 70 feet on the deluxe.
Use & Operation
Connect tubing to the pump and lower into well, suspending the pump by the
tubing, not by the electrical line. Connect the battery leads to begin pumping.
To prevent cavitation upon startup and to prime the pump, turn it on for 4
seconds and then off 4 seconds, 3 or 4 times. Greatest pumping volume is
accomplished using the larger 1/2" ID tubing. Maintenance consists of
cleaning the strainer. The pump is sealed and cannot be disassembled.
Additional Information
Pump should not be operated in the silt trap of a well. Do not run pump dry
or from the battery of a vehicle which is running. Pump strainer may be removed
and the pump used as an inline pump. The Deluxe Pump is actually two standard
pumps connected together. Since the pump output is off center slightly, the top
pump is therefore offset a bit. The standard pump is 1.5 inches OD, but the
deluxe is 1.75 inches OD due to this offset.
