An International Protection Rating (IP Code) classifies the amount of protection electrical enclosures have against solid objects and water. This rating is often seen on outdoor electrical devices such as GPS units, dataloggers, water testing meters, etc. Each IP rating consists of two numbers. The first number is the rating for solid object protection and the second number is for water protection. (For example, on an IP67 rating the 6 describes the level of solid object protection and the 7 describes the level of water protection). The table below shows what each number designates:
