HOBO/Stowaway Software Selection Guide

Document Number: 1120

In order to use HOBO and Stowaway dataloggers, software is required. The appropriate software will allow the user to initially launch the logger as well as to download data.

Launching a Datalogger
Launching a logger involves setting it up for use. During launch, the software allows the user to:

  • Select from predefined sampling intervals (generally 0.5 seconds to 9 hours) or program custom intervals.
  • Set start time and memory modes (such as wrap-around when full or stop when full).
  • Verify logger and battery operation before using.
  • Synchronizes the logger and shuttle clocks to the computer clock.

Downloading a Datalogger
Downloading involves connecting the logger to a computer (or shuttle) once all data have been collected. The data is initially stored in spreadsheet form, and can be graphed or exported into other software.
The Shuttle
In some applications, it is impractical to bring a datalogger in from the field for downloading. In these instances, a shuttle may be used. The shuttle allows a user to download data from a logger directly into the shuttle, while leaving the logger in the field. The shuttle memory stores 468K of data, equal to 51 full 8K loggers or 7 full 64K loggers. It stores all logger information including serial number, launch number, as well as the data.

The appropriate software depends on the logger being used. For the correct software, please see the following compatibility table:
