Origins of the Stormy Kromer Cap
George Kromer, nick-named Stormy because of his temper, was born in 1876 in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. Baseball was always a part of his life. He became a semi-pro baseball player playing for 30 semi-pro teams in the Midwest. His baseball career ended after he met a girl named Ida. Ida’s father said Stormy needed to get a real job before he could marry her.
Stormy became an engineer for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. He would have to make long trips across the plains in cold weather. To see where he was going, he would have to stick his head out the window. By doing so, he lost many caps.
In 1903, Stormy asked his wife Ida, a seamstress, to make modifications to one of his old baseball caps to help keep it on in the wind. The cap was made with all cloth. It was warm, soft, comfortable and stayed on his head because of a six panel fit.
This new Stormy Kromer® Hat caught on with other railroad workers. The demand became so high the Kromers employed a few workers and started a business. A few things have changed since the original hat but the quality of the USA made product is still the same.
You can find the Stormy Kromer® Hat at benmeadows.com. While you're there you can check out Stormy Kromer Mackinaw Coats and Bunkhouse Pants. It's everything you need to keep your entire body warm this winter.
Last month we asked this question: NASTEK Plant Stress Detection Glasses rely on technology developed by what organization?
Garrett from California knows that NASA helped create the NASTEK Plant Stress Detection Glasses.
We're sending Garrett a PMI Kershaw 5-in-1 Carabiner Tool!
