The New Guy
The Ben Team is always growing. It’s exciting to see so many fresh faces around the office contributing great ideas and new perspectives. That’s why we thought it would be a good idea to introduce you to some of the people who take your orders, answer your questions and work hard to serve you better each and every day.
In this issue we’d like you to meet Jeremy. Jeremy is one of the Product Pros who answers your questions when you call Ben Meadows for expert technical support. We asked Jeremy a few questions to help you get to know more about one of the newest members of the Ben Team:
Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.
A: I have always liked being outside. This being said, I went to college so I could work in the natural resource field. I earned a B.S. in Forest Administration and Utilization along with a minor in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. I worked for the USDA Forest Service in Eagle River, Wisconsin as well as the Indiana Department of Natural Resources in southern Indiana. Through school and my jobs I have gained a lot of experience with forestry, soils, surveying, waters and wildlife.
Q: What made you decide to become an Outdoor Pro?
A: My passion for all aspects of our natural resources.
Q: What was one of the biggest surprises you encountered after joining the Ben Team?
A: How sore my bottom would be sitting at a desk all day. I am used to working in the woods.
Q: If there was one thing you would want your fellow Outdoor Pros to know about Ben Meadows what would it be?
A: Ben Meadows offers many services and repairs on many products. I never knew this before I joined the Ben team. If you have a question about a product or are wondering if something can be repaired, just call and ask because you may be surprised. If we don't know the answer right away, we can usually get the answer pretty quick.
Q: What do you do when you're not working at Ben Meadows?
A: I spend my free time deer hunting, walking through the woods, playing sports and spending time with my family and friends. I also love to fish for bass, walleyes and muskies.
Thanks, Jeremy. We’re happy that you decided to join us and proud to have you on the team!

You Got Your Chocolate in My Peanut Butter!
Throughout history there have been a number of instances when two or more items have been combined to form something great. Batman & Robin; eggs & bacon and what's a Swiss Army knife without the toothpick? The list of effective combinations is a long one and a short time ago it was made even longer by Tim O'Connell and his team at Rescue 42, Inc. Tim, a longtime fire fighter and ex-Nuclear Submariner decided to combine two of the most used wildland fire fighting tools: a McLeod rake/hoe and a Pulaski axe. The result is the McLaski™ Wildland Combination Tool - the ultimate I-zone firefighting tool.
The McLaski puts seven tools into one. It is a combination of an axe, fire rake, hoe, scrapper, wildland spanner wrench, fuse holder, and gas shutoff wrench. Plus, the team at Rescue 42, Inc. designed this hybrid to be light. At less than six pounds the McLaski is a well-balanced, highly portable, incredibly versatile tool perfect for any fire fighter's arsenal.
So the next time you're gearing up to face the flames think about how you might want to consolidate some of your essential gear. Then give the time-saving McLaski a try. It's perfect for clearing and raking fire lines, grubbing and trenching, chopping small brush, creating and maintaining trails, overhaul operations and safely lighting backfires. You can find out more about this tool (which is actually two, two tools in one) here.
The Natural Resource Editor's Challenge!
Last month we asked this question:
You may answer this issue's question with a yes or no: If you were to call Ben Meadows (toll-free at 1-800-241-6401) at 3:00 a.m. on a Saturday to order a new Munsell Soil Color Chart (that would be shipped to you without charge if you had previously purchased the $39 Ben Shipping Deal) would you be able to place your order with an actual living, breathing person who may or may not be named Margaret or Gunther?
Donald from Kansas knew that the answer is, "yes".
We're sending Donald a PMI Kershaw 5-in-1 Carabiner Tool!
Take a look at our latest catalog or use our Web site (www.benmeadows.com) for help with this month's challenge. Don't have a catalog? You can get a free copy by clicking here. Now here's the question:
How cold does it have to be before a Rite-in-the-Rain® Bullet Pen (which writes on wet paper, upside down and in temperature extremes) might stop working?
If you know, send us the correct answer along with your name and how to contact you. Send us the right answer and you'll be entered into a drawing. The winner will receive a PMI Kershaw 5-in-1 Carabiner Tool (a $60 value)!
Send your answers to: editor@benmeadows.com
