Badge of Honor
Outdoor Pros love the rugged usefulness of the PMI Kershaw 5-in-1 Carabiner Tool. Over the years this carabiner has grown to become something much more than an indispensable field tool. For many Ben Meadows customers the PMI Kershaw 5-in-1 Carabiner Tool is a badge of honor that tells the world they have conquered The Natural Resource Editor's Challenge!
The next time you see one of your peers with this tool hanging from his or her cruising vest you might wonder if he or she has actually won the challenge. Don’t be shy. Go ahead and ask! If you’ve found a bona fide winner you might get to hear all the details about a path to glory many enviable Outdoor Pros have chosen.
You can join the pantheon of winners! You're good enough, you're smart enough and doggone it, people like you. Please send us your answers to each month's question! But that isn’t the only way you can participate in the challenge. Why not try submitting a question of your own about our products and/or services?
Drop us a line at: editor@benmeadows.com and we might use your submission to try and stump your fellow Outdoor Pros. You won't get a prize, but we’ll acknowledge your contribution. It’s a great way to say you know the right answer each month but just haven’t experienced the luck of the draw; yet.
One last thing—there’s nothing stopping you from heading to benmeadows.com and getting a PMI Kershaw 5-in-1 Carabiner Tool of your own. If someone happens to believe that you got your carabiner by winning the Editor’s Challenge . . . well, there’s not a lot you can do about that. Just smile and nod when they offer to tote all of your gear to the worksite or pick up the tab for lunch.
It’ll be our little secret.

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Employment Opportunities for Outdoor Pros
Last month we wrote about how to learn more about employment opportunities in the U.S. Forest Service. This month we turn our attention to jobs created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, or ARRA.
The ARRA was signed into law February 17, 2009 in an effort to jumpstart the U.S. economy. The act's goal is to create and save jobs in areas of the U.S. that have been impacted the most by current economic conditions. Many of these affected areas are located near national forests. The U.S. Forest Service not only sees these ARRA projects as a source for new jobs but as opportunities to improve our Nation’s forests and grasslands for future generations.

The Next Generation GPS from Garmin
The advent of handheld GPS has revolutionized the way Outdoor Pros do their jobs. Each year manufacturers pack in more features at lower price points making GPS technology incredibly accessible for everyone.
Ben Meadows carries the new Oregon GPS from Garmin. The Oregon 300 features a rugged, touchscreen along with a built-in basemap with shaded relief, a high-sensitivity receiver, barometric altimeter, electronic compass, microSD™ card slot, picture viewer and more.
The Oregon 300 features a tough, three-inch diagonal, sunlight-readable, color, touchscreen display. Its easy-to-use interface means you’ll spend more time enjoying the outdoors and less time searching for information. Both durable and waterproof, Oregon 300 is built to withstand the elements. Bumps, dust, dirt, humidity and water co-workers and camping buddies are no match for this rugged navigator.
Out of the box the 300 comes with a built in worldwide basemap, a carabiner clip for attaching to clothing or packs, a USB cable for down-loading or up-loading maps, an owners manual and a quick start guide.
Finally, new to the world of GPS the Oregon 300 allows you to share your waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches wirelessly with other Oregon Series GPSs! Your favorite hike or run through the woods, location of a geocache, favorite hunting spots (maybe not your favorite hunting spot) can be shared just by touching “send” to transfer the information.

The Natural Resource Editor's Challenge!
Last month we asked this question:
A person has just ordered Ben's Shipping Deal for $39. How much will this person pay for ground shipping and handling if he/she then orders 40 quarts of marking paint? [You may use a calculator to help with your answer.]
Kristy from Oregon knew that the savvy, theoretical individual who took advantage of Ben's Shipping Deal paid not one thin dime (her words) to have 40 quarts of marking paint delivered! You can be a savvy, actual individual who saves a bundle on ground shipping when you order Ben's Shipping Deal for yourself. Click here for more details.
And yes, we're sending Kristy a PMI Kershaw 5-in-1 Carabiner Tool!
Take a look at our latest catalog or use our Web site (www.benmeadows.com) for help with this month's challenge. Don't have a catalog? You can get a free copy by clicking here. Now here's the question:
If you refer to the third edition of our 2009 catalog you'll discover something handpicked by one of our Product Pros, Gary (and no, it's not what that might sound like—gross). Name one of the things Gary has handpicked. If you need help, we'll tell you that the third edition of our 2009 catalog is also available as a handy, online eCatalog.
If you know, send us the correct answer along with your name and how to contact you. Send us the right answer and you'll be entered into a drawing. The winner will receive a PMI Kershaw 5-in-1 Carabiner Tool (a $60 value)!
