These Global Water Flow Probes are highly accurate, lightweight, water-velocity instruments. Excellent for stormwater-runoff studies, measuring flows in streams, rivers and partially filled pipes. The anodized aluminum telescoping handle is available in lengths that extend from 2.5' to 5.5' (No. 220469), 3' to 6' (No. 174464) and 5' to 15' (No. 174465). Key features fo these Water Flow Probes are a free-rotating turbo-prop propeller sensor protected inside a 2-dia. PVC housing which can be placed directly on the bottom of pipes or streams for measuring flows down to 2" in depth. Probes can be extended up to 25'L for measuring sewers or for use from bridges using standard PVC pipe and electrical extension cable. A 3'L Mylar-coated staff gauge graduated in hundredths and centimeters is attached directly to the lower section of the probe for instantly measuring water depth and probe position. The large, easy-to-read, rainproof, digital readout is on the top of the handle. It features displayed readings of instantaneous velocity along with average velocity, minimum or maximum velocity.

Comments about Global Water Flow Probe 3' to 6':
First I'll start by saying the manufacturer has been excellent about replacing meters. I work in fisheries, and we are not hard on the meter at all. It's only used ~10 times/week for a few minutes at a time during field season. In the two years we've had this meter, it has stopped functioning 4 times and the company has sent a replacement. The shield around the impeller and the design of the impeller allow algae and aquatic plants to become wrapped up, so we have to take it apart. Numerous times filamentous algae has become wrapped around the shaft acting as the impellers bearing. You cannot replace the batteries in the control head. The control head also attaches to the shaft with a large old school phone connector like older stereos used for headphones. It does not attach firmly, and comes loose often. We had to use duck tape to secure it. I'm sorry, but for $1000 one would expect better engineering. As far as the actual measurements it takes; it seems to take them easily and fairly accurately. This is the worst piece of equipment I have ever used. It is poorly designed, poorly constructed, and is a nightmare. When you spend a whole day traveling only to discover you cannot get the proper measurments you are supposed to, it is a huge frustration.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
