Augers Include Beating Head for Hard Soils
Dual-purpose soil probes can be used to take undisturbed soil samples or start holes for other augers. The Gouge Auger (Soil Probes) have a half cylindrical body that is designed for easy removal of samples. Since probes can be used in all types of soil, the design allows you to get a truly representative profile of soil layers without compacting or mixing the layers. The 1" diameter means larger sample quantities may be taken in less time. Sharp cutting edges ensure easy penetration without twisting or turning which could agitate the sample. The probes are conveniently marked on the back at 10cm intervals.
These gouge augers have a "Beating Head" which is struck with the steel hammer with nylon head which in turn drives the probe into hard soils. The unique design of the head and hammer absorbs impact.
